The Best Color Temperature For Houston Outdoor Lighting Pt 2

How To Identify The Best Color Temperature For Various Applications In Houston

1. Display Elements

Do you have a stone fountain, stonework, or beautiful statues in your garden and looking for the perfect lighting for the same? A 2000k to 3000k color spectrum will produce a much better shade for the garden. The stone surface will absorb the warmer temperature leaving your garden more vibrant at night. The warm color temperature combines well with the settled-cooler stone producing even better results. We, however, don’t recommend choosing cooler light temperatures (4600k – 6500k), for these will create an unsettling and ghostly look to the stone surfaces. The cooler color temperatures may, however, prove effective if looking to produce a haunted vibe, especially for Halloween.

3. Entertainment & Outdoor Living Areas

Entertainment and outdoor living spaces ought to have a calm and relaxing vibe to enable your guests to sit back and relax. Warmer LED lights (2000K – 3000k) are this recommended for this application. The warmer tones produce just enough light for the space, and don’t hurt your eyes at all. Think of how the firepit illuminates the area around. The fire’s warm glow is relaxing to look at, hence the perfect temperature for outdoor and entertainment purposes.

4. Garden Lighting

The garden is one of the few places at home you want the lighting to be spot-on. Sticking to the cooler but vibrant light color (3000K – 4000K) will help produce and even amplify the plant’s natural colors and features. These LEDs help produce and amplify the plants’ vibrancy in the garden, hence the perfect choice if looking to show your garden off.

Porch Light Safety Rules In Houston: Leave It On Or Not?

A Helpful Guide To Houston Porch Light Safety

Porch lights can provide you with convenience and safety. You won’t have to search for your keys for many long minutes, so you’ll be inside your home within seconds.

This light will also deter potential burglars, as they won’t be too keen to intrude into an apparently occupied dwelling. Nevertheless, smart thieves pay close attention to details, so they will probably know when and how you turn your porch and deck lighting on and off.

If you want to keep burglars off your home, think about the best times to keep your porch lights on or off.

Best Times To Turn Your Porch Light On

At Night, When You Are Home

This is the perfect time to leave your porch light on. It warns potential intruders that you are at home, particularly if you also leave some indoor lights on. Also, you can easily spot anyone approaching your home.

When You Know Someone In Your Home Will Return Late At Night

If you know you’re going to return very late at night, you can leave the porch light on. It will keep burglars away and will also allow you to find your keys and to unlock your door faster.

When You Leave Your Children At Home

If you get out for the evening and you leave your kids at home, leave your porch light on. Also, switch on some of the indoor light, just for potential intruders to see that there’s someone home. Your children will love to have some light on the porch, as they will feel safer.

When You Expect A Home Delivery

If you know you’re going to receive a package, you should leave the porch light on. This will help the delivery person find your home easier.

Best Times To Turn Your Porch Lights Off

When You Leave For A Longer Period Of Time

Whenever you have to leave the town, either for business or vacation, you should turn your porch light off during the day. Potential intruders will know that you’re not home when they will see such a waste of energy. If you’re keen on having your porch light on during the night, ask one of your neighbors to come and turn it on and off, or buy a light timer. The point is to create the illusion that you’re home.

When You Go To Sleep

There’s no reason why you should keep your porch light on throughout the whole night. Turn it off before you go to bed, just as your neighbors do. In addition, you may want to invest in infrared sensors that make lights automatically turn on whenever they detect motion.

When Anxiety Takes Over

If you’re home alone and you feel anxious, it’s probably better to turn off the porch light. Many burglars stalk a property for days or even weeks in a row before deciding to take action. If they notice that you’re on your own, they might pick that time to break into your house.

If Your House Is In A Rural Area

In this situation, it’s best to keep the porch light off during the high. Intruders will have a hard time finding their way around, so you’ll know they are coming.

All You Need To Know About Houston Landscape Lighting

What Is Actually A Landscape Lighting In Houston

In this article, we are going to provide our expert tips on how to light up your outdoors, from choosing the best outdoor lights to installing them.

What Is The Best Landscape Lighting?

Most of the modern landscape lighting available on the market is low voltage, and there a compelling reason for this. Low-voltage lighting is much safer to work with and cheaper to install than 120-volt systems. While low-voltage lights only utilize one-tenth the power, they are able to achieve a limitless range of desirable effects, from a subtle glow that illuminates a low garden wall to ethereal moonlight that beams down from a tree canopy. They are able to achieve this thanks to a step-down transformer. Selecting the best lighting scheme involves more than just choosing the right hardware; it is also about artistry.

What Is In A Low-Voltage Outdoor Lighting System?

Landscape lighting is usually reliant on reduced power voltage from your house.

  • Transformer: It steps-down the 120-volt current from your home to 12 volts, which is much safer.
  • Bulb: The bulb determines the color, brightness, and beamwidth of a light. Additionally, it determines the light’s energy usage.
  • Fixture Housing: It offers the bulb protection against weather elements and is key in shaping the beam of light.
  • Stake: It is responsible for holding the fixture in place.
  • Cable: Transmits current to light via the lead wires of the fixture. Accent lights directed at the facade and underlit trees produce a beautiful post-sunset atmosphere around this home.

DIY Or Hire A Pro?

Homeowners can set up a simple system within a weekend. However, to achieve the most amazing effects, you should consider hiring a landscape lighting professional that has experience dealing with a wide range of fixtures and how to position them.

How Much Maintenance Is Required?

To prevent the fixtures from overheating, you need to keep them free of leaves and debris. If there are burned-out bulbs, you need to replace them immediately to prevent others on the circuit from being subjected to life-shortening voltage overloads.

What is the Lifespan of Lighting Fixtures?

While fixtures and transformer warranties normally range between one and ten years, fixtures made of stainless steel, copper, and brass should operate indefinitely.

Types of Outdoor House Lights In Houston

Wash

Emits a subtle, diffuse light that is perfect for illuminating garden walls, flat facades, and private fences.

Garden

Canopies installed on 18 to 24-inch posts direct light into planting beds. They are also used as pathway markers. The style and finish of garden lights are usually on display, unlike other kinds of lights.

Bullet

These types of lighting fixtures are versatile and compact. They are normally fitted with bulbs that emit a narrow beam light that is ideal for highlighting house features, garden structures, and tree trunks.

Well

The bulb of a well light is concealed in a waterproof housing that is buried inside the ground. This way, people are able to see the light without necessarily seeing the fixture. These types of lights are used to graze over the base of a wall or facade or to light the underside of plant foliage.

Downlight

These types of lights are often set up high on trunks and branches. By aiming them at paths, lawns, or on plant foliage, they can produce a moonlit effect. These lights come with a long, cowl-shaped shroud to avoid side glare. Select durable brass and copper housings with LEDs. This will help to avoid having to constantly climb and down to make repairs and replacements.

Flood

Floodlights normally emit a wider beam than bullet lights – at least 40 degrees – and they are much brighter than wash lights. There is a collar to minimize side glare. Floodlights are used sparingly to light up wide house facades and tall trees.

It’s always worth hiring a professional lighting designer in order to help you make the right decisions and to ensure your lighting is installed properly. Is It Possible To Install Houston LED Lights Outside

Advantages & Reasons To Use LED Lights Outdoor In Houston

Outdoor lighting plays a crucial role in providing illumination to dark areas, hence helping discourage crime, reduce the risk of injuries, and make your otherwise dark patio livable, especially when holding a party. Until recently, many people were stuck to incandescent and fluorescent bulbs for both accent and outdoor lighting. LED technology has, however, revolutionized this sector by providing energy-efficient means of keeping your home, businesses, and public spaces lit. There’s, however, some confusion on if LED lights can be used safely outdoors. You can thus enjoy the convenience and energy efficiency that these lights have to offer when compared to traditional lighting options.

LED lights are considered the ideal option for all industrial, commercial, and residential outdoor lighting needs. They come bundled with the same benefits as when used indoors. Some of the benefits of using LEDs outdoors include low maintenance costs, as well as minimal replacement costs. Here are some of the advantages and reasons to use LED lights outdoors.

1. Clear, Bright Light

Traditional lighting fixtures, such as mercury vapor and metal-halide lamps, tend to start with clear white light but eventually start turning into a visible pink or orange color. Such transition makes them impractical. On the other hand, LEDs produce a clear and consistent white light all through the fixture’s life. This is regardless of how long the LED is used. Technology has also made it possible to adjust the LED light spectrum manually to produce warmer or even brighter light depending on the application.

2. Energy Efficiency

LED lights use up more than 90% of the energy supplied to produce light. They thus do not waste energy in the form of heat light like metal-halide and incandescent lamps do. In addition to this, LEDs require only a fraction of the energy to produce the same light intensity as these incandescents. This is one reason why LEDs are considered more energy efficient than bulbs using filaments to produce light. Additionally, you never have to worry about wasted energy or huge replacement costs.

3. Lower Cost Of Ownership & Bills

LEDs not only produce the same amount of light for less wattage but also last a lot longer. That said, you can be assured your LEDs will last for months, or even years before a replacement is needed. They also run cool, which again reduces the risk of burning out or needing frequent replacement. All these translate to money savings in the long run.

4. Available In Various Shapes, Forms & Styles

LED lights to come in a wide range of shapes, forms, and designs, all that befit most applications. You can thus use the lights for both outdoor lighting and decorative purposes as well.

The fact that LED lights are durable, energy-efficient, and produce the same amount of light for less wattage makes them the ideal option for outdoor lighting. You will also be saving lots of money after making the switch.

A home in Houston, TX, with landscape lighting

Why You Should Upgrade To LED Outdoor Lighting In Houston Pt 2

5 Reasons To Upgrade To Houston LED Landscape Lighting

Part 2

3. Fewer Maintenance Requirements

The fact is, halogen bulbs are a pain. After all, they require constant maintenance as they need to be changed once yearly. Therefore, if you have a complex landscaping lighting system with multiple bulbs, you will find yourself spending a lot of time and energy swapping out bulbs. Due to the frequency in which you will have to change halogen bulbs, you may be an expert at bulb replacement in a few years. Because LED bulbs are capable of lasting so much longer than their halogen counterparts, you will have much fewer maintenance requirements to worry about. You will also be able to avoid having to constantly replace the bulbs themselves which can provide monetary savings alone.

To make it even sweeter, we offer a warranty on all of the LEDs we use because they are fully guaranteed to last for 30,000 to 40,000 hours. Whereas, halogens are only guaranteed for a maximum of 4,000 hours. Along with our industry-leading warranty, we provide a full lifetime maintenance program that will include the LEDs we use. Therefore, if you get an LED lighting system installed from us and you get the maintenance program, you won’t ever have to pay for a bulb replacement again.

4. Our LED Fixtures Look Great and Last A Long Time

We only use the most heavy-duty lighting fixtures we can find. You will get fixtures that are made up of solid cast brass rather than the traditional flimsy plastic or aluminum fixtures that you might find installed currently. Because brass is much more durable than the other materials you will find, it is going to last much longer without needing maintenance or replacement. Along with this, brass has the benefit of blending into natural surroundings much better and the fixtures we use are much sleeker than other fixtures. Because of these things, they will be much less noticeable than the clunky and outdated fixtures you may have installed currently.

5. Better Lighting

LED fixtures are generally going to cast much better lighting that covers a much wider area because they offer a much more even beam spread. Therefore, you will get much more even light distribution from the top to the bottom. Whereas, halogen lights tend to create a hot spot towards the light source and as the beam flows upwards, the beam tapers considerably. Along with this, LED paths inherently have a broader spread of light.

6. They Are Safer

LEDs are naturally safer than halogen bulbs. In fact, halogen bulbs can be considered a fire hazard due to the bulbs burning at such a high temperature in comparison. Halogen bulbs burn at nearly 500 degrees Fahrenheit at their core. Whereas, LEDs only burn at a low 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Likewise, the exterior of an LED fixture only runs at a max of 80 degrees which means it can effectively melt snow, but it won’t set fire to surrounding leaves and other hazardous materials.

If you are convinced to make the switch, how do you know that you should do it right now?

Perhaps the biggest sign that you should be looking to make the switch right now is when you notice your halogen lights going out more often than they used to. If you are having to regularly maintain your bulbs more than usual, it is likely time to get your system checked by a professional. Another major thing to look for would be finding that your path lights are leaning or that your fixture covers are falling off.

If you don’t know what kind of shape your existing system is in, you can call us. We will be able to conduct a free diagnostic test where we will visit your home, check on your system, and give you our professional recommendation.
